□ Name: Katherine Pierce (formerly Katerina Petrova)
□ Series: The Vampire Diaries
□ Canon point: Season 2 episode 9, Katerina
□ History: http://vampirediaries.wikia.com/wiki/Katherine_Pierce#History
□ Personality: The most important person in Katherine’s life is herself. She’s cared about others over the years, of course, but none of them are nearly as important to her as her own skin. She’d sacrifice her best friend or her lover in a heartbeat if it meant she could keep going on another decade. She considers humanity to be a vampire’s greatest weakness and the off switch vampires are supposed to have just doesn’t always work.

That being said, she does form emotional attachments despite herself. She loves Stefan and Damon in her own, special way, and though she values her own life more highly, she is fond of them and prefers they’re all right. Between the two of them, she prefers Stefan. During the decades that she was presumed dead, she checked up on him occasionally. Though she enjoyed the attention Damon gave her, her feelings for him were not as strong. He was too easy, maybe, too soft and gentlemanly which was not as interesting to her. She likes it much better when she meets him again and he’s gotten crueler, though he doesn’t start things up again with her when she says she prefers Stefan then, now, and forever. Stefan’s the one she came back for. Well, Stefan and Elena.

She also cared for her family, once upon a time, even though they kicked her out after she had a child out of wedlock. She cared enough that when Klaus murdered them all as revenge for her becoming a vampire and thus useless to him, it was devastating. That is part of why she has since refused to care for anyone too much. Sometimes her humanity creeps in and weakens her, but she usually doesn’t let it. She can’t afford to have vulnerabilities, not while Klaus is still around and still after his revenge. He would use them against her.

Katherine is brutal and deadly and that has not changed over the course of the show. However, when she first appears in 1864 she hides it more, at least around Stefan and to a lesser extent, around Damon. In 1864 she is surrounded by friends, most of whom she’s sired, and even the humans in her life are on good terms with her at first. When she returns to Mystic Falls in 2010, she has no real friends. She and Isobel are on good terms, at least until Isobel betrays her to Klaus, but besides that, she has no reason to try and hide her more vicious nature and every reason to show how dangerous an opponent she is. She plays her own games and refuses to tell anyone the rules because she doesn’t want to show her vulnerability, even to Stefan and Damon. There is truth wound into her lies, though. Though she did not come back just for Stefan like she pretends, she does still have feelings for him. This becomes more clear when she stops being the biggest threat around and allies herself with Damon and Stefan and Elena because they become her best shot at not dying. At her canon point, though, she is still trying to strike a deal with Klaus and still trying to manipulate Elena and the Salvatores through threats.

Katherine has always been very strong and independent, refusing to allow what society expects to dictate her actions. Even when her premarital sex results in a child that she’s not allowed to so much as hold, even when she gets kicked out of her home, she remains strong. In the nineteenth century, she has no problems messing around with both Salvatore boys no matter how much the other citizens of Mystic Falls may talk. She’s also a survivor, and though she certainly has her pride when she can afford it, it’s just one of many things she’s willing to sacrifice to keep her life. She’s an expert liar and extremely willing to experience pain herself if it’ll hurt someone else or help her get away with a lie. For instance, in Masquerade she stabs herself repeatedly because she and Elena are linked and she knows it’ll hurt Elena, who is not as used to pain. She also knows she’ll heal. She puts her hand in the sun unshielded by her bracelet when Klaus tries to compel her when she’s on vervain so that he believes she is not free from his control.

She also can make friends very capably when she wants to. When she’s not murdering people, she can be charming and friendly, and she’s seduced many men to her side, including Elijah, Mason, and of course, Stefan and Damon. She doesn’t have any qualms about compelling men, but when it comes to seduction, she generally doesn’t need to bother. She’s really, really good at it. She also likes keeping tabs on the local witches and will try and get them in her debt to get them on he side.

She has many flaws, of course. Some might consider the fact that she’s a manipulative, murderous bitch to be a flaw, though she certainly doesn’t. The only character she’d consider to be a real flaw is her occasional tendency to let her emotions creep in and make her do something for someone else. Besides that, the character traits others would consider to be flaws are things that have kept her alive. She’s very, very selfish and demanding, dishonest, untrustworthy, unpredictable, bloodthirsty, ruthless… but she wouldn’t change any of that. Not unless maybe all of her enemies were dead and she could afford to be human. But she'd die if Klaus did since he's her bloodline, so that couldn't happen.

As I’ve said before, Katherine’s main goal and motivation will always be staying alive. Past that, at her canon point she’s trying to find a way to strike a deal with Klaus. She thinks if she can get him all the things he needs to break his curse, he might let her stop running. Unfortunately, this really does not pan out how she’d like it to. A tertiary goal is to get Stefan back and make Elena miserable however she can. She loves Stefan despite herself, and she believes he loves her back. She likes how things were in the nineteenth century, and if she could go back to having both boys like Elena does now, well, she’d have a lot more fun with it than Elena does. She also considers Elena as evidence that Stefan is nowhere near as over her as he pretends to be.

Katherine enjoys ruining Elena’s life in any way she can, and often there’s not much Elena can do about it. The evil twin excuse doesn’t hold much weight, even when it’s true, and most people don’t know about Katherine. Katherine is pretty good at pretending to be Elena too, and when she straightens her hair, it’s almost impossible to tell the two apart, though it can be done.

She has a hot temper, and she’s very vengeful. When Stefan tells her he hates her, she stabs him with a metal rod. It won’t kill him, of course, but it still hurts. She compels Jenna to stab herself when Damon gets in her way. When she gets impatient she goes straight to killing people to motivate people to hurry up. She will bully people into doing what she tells them, like when she makes Caroline spy on Elena and Stefan by threatening Matt. She turned Caroline into a vampire in part because she knew it would hurt Elena. Though Elena hadn’t really done anything besides look like Katherine and win over both Salvatore boys, that was enough for Katherine to punish her.

She learns from her mistakes and works to correct them. After being poisoned by vervain in Stefan’s blood, she starts drinking a little bit of vervain every day so that she can’t be taken out by drinking it. She also always has a plan B. When Damon kills Mason, she manipulates some of Tyler’s friends into getting themselves killed so she can have a werewolf for her plan. She doesn’t like losing or being unprepared so she always tries to stay a step ahead of her enemies. She’s very good at it, but unfortunately, her plans still often get derailed. It doesn’t stop her from trying again, though. Nothing but permanent death could do that.

□ Age: 535 (physically 18)
□ Gender: female
□ Appearance: Long dark, curly hair that she sometimes straightens when she's pretending to be Elena. Tan skin. Big, brown eyes. She's always very fashionable, wearing whatever's in style at the current century, and wearing it well. She's thin, average height for a woman, and very beautiful.
□ Abilities/Powers: As a vampire, Katherine has several powers. She's faster and stronger than normal humans, and faster and stronger than a lot of vampires as she is very old. She has fangs that pop out when she's feeding or angry for draining blood. She can also compel people to do what she wants or change their memories. Her weaknesses are sunlight (though she has a pendant that combats that), a plant called vervain that can be used to resist compulsion that also hurts her, though she drinks a little every day so she's built up a tolerance, and of course, being staked in the chest. Having her heart ripped out or her head chopped off would also kill her, as would the bite of a werewolf. Her hearing and sight are also a lot more powerful than human senses, and she heals quickly. Also, if she's not killed, she'll live forever.
□ Personal Items: A lapis lazuli pendant that can be worn as either a bracelet or a necklace that allows Katherine to walk in the sun. A book on the history of the Petrova family with drawings of her parents and ancestors. A small, potted vervain plant. A few fashionable outfits she couldn't possibly do without.
